Crusade to End Violence Against Women

Collaborated   with the the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) in its 18-day campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW),  the kick-off event for the 18-Day Campaign  on November 25, 2012 at the Quirino Grandstand, Manila was a resounding succees with the participation of an estimated  crowd of 4,000.

The   symbolic lighting and releasing of sky lanterns  signalled the start of the18-Day crusade to VAW. Whistles were also blown as  a symbolic gesture of the groups united commitment to stop violence against women,This year’s campaign  focuses  on Gender-Based Violence during Disasters, Calamities and Crisis Situations with the theme “VAW-Free Society: In Times of Peace, Conflict and Calamity.” The campaign theme aims to increase public awareness on VAW in any context and situation.

An exciting program at the event combined inspirational speeches of commitment to the campaign by  Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines, HE Jorge  Domecg and Mayor Alfredo Lim of Manila and an opening prayer by ZC President Beth C.   Florentino. To highlight the event, a  the lighting of the sky lantern was led by PCW Chair Remedios Ignacio Rikken and  Executive Director Emmeline “Miyene” Versoza with Spanish Ambassador Jorge Domecq , Mayor Alfredo Lim, and  Beth C. Florentino of Zonta Metro Pasig.

Even notable local artists lent their talent to the affair such as Noel Cabangon with his rendition of  “Kumilos, Mga Kalalakihan!” the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Band “Babae, Bumangon Ka!”  and the all female band  Encantada who did an iber with their drums.


Those who joined hands with Zonta Club of Metropolitan Pasig for   were AECID (Agencia Espanola de Cooperacion Internacional para el Desarollo), United Nations (UN) Women, National Parks Development Committee, MMDA, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), Metro Rail Transit (MRT), Womens Center-TESDA, City Government of Manila, Brgy. San Lorenzo .  Makati City, Focus Media, and Summit Media, students various colleges and universities.
